Luka Stevanović – founder and designer

How long have you been involved in design?
From this perspective, I can say that I have been designing all my life, that the aesthetics of interior space has always been my interest. It is a privilege for me that I studied interior design and that today I am doing a job that I love. It’s not just my profession, even though I worked as an interior designer for a foreign company for years, it’s my life.
Creativity is magical and every time I am amazed how an idea is born, elaborated on paper and then becomes tangible and material through the creation of a product. That’s why I always carry paper and a small pad with me and I’ve never given up on sketches.
Why did you decide to start the production of furniture for babies?
I wanted to share my ideas and the experience I gained while working with foreign interior and furniture designers. It seemed to me that baby furniture was unfairly neglected and that the traditional manufacture of wooden products was slowly being lost. In the past, baby furniture was made of solid wood, which has somehow been forgotten in the meantime. I would like to return to production from natural, renewable materials and encourage other designers to do so.
In addition, I wanted to give new life to furniture that is often forgotten in the attic when the baby grows up and to find a way to use it for years. I think what makes me happy most of all is the thought that special little people will grow up in the furniture I created.

What do you use as inspiration in your design?
I have always loved simple and elegant design, without too many unnecessary details. In recent years, I returned to my native land, Eastern Serbia, which has exceptional natural beauty, where I saw forests and untouched nature everywhere. I found the main inspiration in that nature and its organic form. There are no straight lines in nature, which I accept as a challenge, trying to transfer at least part of that into objects that will enhance your home.
In the design of furniture for babies, I used soft lines that are natural and warm, silhouettes that calm and provide a sense of security.
What is the most important thing when choosing a baby crib?
In the first place – safety. When it comes to little ones, it has to be a priority. It is important that you know that your baby is safe in its crib. Functionality and design are also important, and their synergy is what defines a quality product.
The word “design” is often misinterpreted as just aesthetics, design is much more than that – it also involves thinking about how a piece of furniture will fit into your life, how to make a product that is ergonomic and comfortable, figuring out the best way to make it long-lasting and resistant.
